Pinterest for Business – Part III | How to Reap ALL the Benefits of Using Tailwind for Pinterest
Welcome back to my Pinterest for Business series! 🙂 Today’s post is about working smarter, not harder – don’t you just love it, when you find ways to make your business thrive WITHOUT putting an immense extra workload on your plate? *excited* Quick recap, before we dive right in:
In part one of the Pinterest for Business series, you can learn how to set up and optimise your Pinterest account, if you haven’t done so already. Part two explains the Pinterest best practices to use for maximum exposure of your content through Pinterest. This is part three of the series and it’s all about pinning the smart way by using Tailwind* for Pinterest.

What is Tailwind and Why Should I Use it?
As stated on their homepage, Tailwind* is an “official Pinterest Marketing Developer Partner for Content Marketing”. While this might still leave you a bit clueless as to what it is they actually do, I’d like to draw your attention to one very important word here: OFFICIAL. It’s nothing shady, nothing scammy, it’s an official Pinterest partner. That alone is a fact well worth considering. If you are on the hunt for perfect Pinterest management tool(s), wouldn’t it put your mind at ease to discover one, that is an official partner? At least to me, that’s a unique selling point. By the way, you can find out which platforms are official Pinterest partners by checking the Pinterest Marketing Partners Directory.
By choosing an official partner you can rely on your information (including financial information) being safe. Pinterest won’t penalise you for using this tool and certainly won’t shut it down overnight. Pinterest will be sharing valuable strategic information with their partners. Thus, by choosing official partners you know that they will adapt quickly to all the Pinterest changes that are about to come (The last months have been crazy with Pinterest changes, haven’t they?!). Those should be more than enough reasons to choose an official Pinterest partner to manage your pinning, don’t you think?
If you are using Instagram as another social media platform for your online marketing, you’ll be delighted to learn that Tailwind* is an official Instagram partner as well. 🙂 For this blog post, however, I’ll only concentrate on using Tailwind for Pinterest.
What are the Benefits of Using Tailwind for Pinterest?
Tailwind* is a scheduling tool that lets you determine when to pin which Pins to which of your Pinterest board(s). This helps to make your workflow a lot easier and a lot more efficient, as it allows you to batch your pinning.
Stay Consistent Even When You Don’t Have the Time to Pin Every Day
Why would you need a scheduler? As you know, consistency is key to a successful Pinterest strategy. That means you should be pinning 10-12 Pins EVERY DAY. As in EVERY DAY. Eeek, I hear you say, what if life happens? As it tends to happen. You wanna go places, something else needs your attention… I know! You wouldn’t want to jeopardise everything you worked so hard for by being inconsistent, right? Since you can’t write a letter to the Pinterest algorithm explaining, why you – unfortunately – had to take some time off, you wanna find a tool that helps you be prepared.
Enter Tailwind for Pinterest. Now when you know you won’t have the time to stick to your manual pinning schedule, you head over to Tailwind and batch schedule 10-12 Pins for all days you know you won’t find the time to do it manually. Awesome! You are now good to go on that vacation you absolutely deserve without having to worry about your Pinterest strategy falling to pieces while you are gone. *sigh of relief* 🙂
Work More Efficiently
Even when you don’t go anywhere, why not set aside one day of your week to schedule all your Pins for that week and be done with it? I don’t know about you, but sometimes it takes me quite a while to get into the rhythm of a task. Like writing blog posts for example. It usually starts slowly and then gets much easier after a while. So, setting a whole day aside to concentrate on only writing blog posts instead of doing a bit of everything, reduces that friction. Work ’till you get into the flow and then use the flow to get things done more quickly and easily. See how batching tasks can help you work more efficiently? Tailwind* allows you to do all your pinning at once and then have time to concentrate on your other tasks.
The Tailwind browser extension also makes it very easy to fill your schedule by selecting Pins from a website or Pinterest directly (see example below). When you hover over an image, the little blue Tailwind symbol will show up. Click on that Tailwind schedule symbol and you can choose one or more boards to pin to. Moreover, you can even set an interval to schedule your Pin to different boards some days apart, so your audience won’t have to see the same Pin 10x a day. To do that, click the little clock symbol and set your interval. As you can see, you can also add content directly to your Tailwind tribes (I’ll talk about Tailwind Tribes in a moment, just bear with me!).
I’ll talk about using Tailwind* specifically for E-commerce stores in a moment but wanted to mention the advantages of Tailwind browser extension for online stores here briefly. Let’s say you need to pin A LOT of product Pins directly from Pinterest to one or more of your boards. Tedious work, right? But hey, if you click the Tailwind browser extension, you can choose multiple images IN ONE GO. Once you are done, click “Go Schedule” and select when to pin them and which boards to pin them to. You can set custom times and intervals as well. This should save you quite a bit of time, I imagine.
To sound a word of warning here: I know Tailwind makes it very easy to fill your schedule quickly. Don’t sacrifice quality for quantity though! I think when I started out using Tailwind, that’s something I didn’t pay enough attention to… Now I’m checking each and every link to make sure the links aren’t broken and lead to valuable content. *lesson learned* Remember, your Pins should ALWAYS have useful, carefully keyworded descriptions.
Get Better Engagement Using the Smart Schedule
But wait, there is more! Introducing the smart schedule. The Tailwind smart schedule allows you to schedule your Pins based on when your audience is most engaged. This is what it looks like:
The advantage of optimised time slots is that you reach your audience when it is most likely to interact with your content. This, in turn, leads to them being more likely to re-pin your content – provided you deliver high-quality content that they love. After all, let’s face it – Pinterest has more than 175 million active monthly users. There are more than 50 billion (!!!) Pins out there. Getting your Pins seen by the right people is crucial to your marketing success.
Reach an Even Bigger Audience With Tailwind Tribes
As I mentioned before, Tailwind Tribes are a great way to get your content in front of fresh eyes! They basically work like group boards on Pinterest in that they provide a shared list to pin to. Every tribe has a description and a few simple rules you have to follow. Usually, they require you to schedule at least one Pin from the tribe for every Pin you submit to the tribe. Easily done, I’d say!
As you can see in the example above, below the Tribe name you find the description, tags, and rules of a Tribe. It also tells you whether a tribe is open for everyone to join or whether you need to request to join and wait for your approval.
Furthermore, you get an overview of the entire Tribe’s number of re-shares and re-pins as well as your own results from this tribe. The results can be quite remarkable! Look at the reach I’m getting from this one Tribe alone: 192k! Woohoo!
Now you might be wondering how many Pins I had to share to get this result. For all you know I could have worked my butt off and shared hundreds of Pins. Nope. I joined this Tribe very recently and all I’ve shared at this point in time is 11 (!!) Pins. Incredible isn’t it?!
And yes, you are right, not all Tribes will perform that well. But no, it’s not just that ONE Tribe, that gets these awesome results! Care for another example? Here you go:
Another Tribe that I only joined recently – I’ve shared 4 Pins and already have a reach of 121.2k through these few Pins. To tell you the truth though, not all of my Tribes perform that well. It’s a matter of searching for Tribes and testing which ones work well. If your Tribes aren’t doing well, you can leave them at any time and replace them with others that work better for you.
If you can’t find a Tribe that suits your needs, don’t panic! You can easily create a new one for your topic. 🙂
Now, why is increasing your reach important? Increasing your reach means more eyes on your content, which hopefully means more sales for your business! So make each Pin count! Have appealing mock-ups or live-styled photos for your products and create inviting landing pages that the Pins leads to. This is how you can use Tailwind* to drive traffic to your website AND increase your sales. Yay!
Measure Your Progress
On top of all this, Tailwind for Pinterest also offers helpful analytics.
You can monitor your profile performance. To be more precise, you can track the number of your Pinterest followers, your Pins, Re-Pins, and comments. Moreover, the analysis shows your virality score, engagement score, and engagement rate – all of which help you understand how well your Pins are doing. But that’s not ALL I can do (said the cat in the hat)! In your board insights tab, you will be able to see which are your best performing boards. Maybe it’s time to clean out some of those boards that aren’t performing well at all? Use those insights to optimise your Pin strategy.
This is also a great feature for online business owners as it helps them to create a strategy that works. Which Pins do well? This is what your audience is interested in. Maybe you can offer them more related products or services?
Does This Work for E-Commerce Stores, Too?
By now you know how Tailwind for Pinterest helps you drive traffic to your content. You might be wondering if Pinterest marketing would work for your e-commerce store as well? You bet it would! There are few things I would recommend if you are trying to sell physical goods with the help of Pinterest though. To increase the chance of people clicking through to your site, you need to put some effort into this. Simply uploading a boring picture of whatever it is you are trying to sell and sharing it like crazy isn’t going to cut it.
Using Tailwind for Pinterest to Promote Your Online Store
If you can, create a blog around your offers and detail the benefits people will have from buying your products. Do they help them solve some of their problems? Explain and elaborate! How would their lives change for the better when they buy your product?
What if you are an artist and your offers don’t solve any problems? Well, you could still talk about their meaning, your motivation for creating them, or maybe offer a peek-behind-the-scene, show them how you create your work.
Once you are done writing your detailed blog post about your awesome product(s), add Pinterest-worthy graphics including text overlays with engaging titles.
Pro tip: A popular way of displaying your products is to take some stunning flat lay photos for your marketing campaign and use those on Pinterest and social media.
Share boldly on your Pinterest boards, Pinterest group boards, and Tailwind Tribes. Now you should be good to go! 🙂
Benefits of Having Your Own Website to Sell Your Goods
The huge benefit of having your own website for selling your products or even someone else’s products is, that there are a lot fewer distractions for your potential customers. If you offered your product through one of the huge online marketplaces, your product would be one amongst potentially hundreds of thousands of others. So many things your customer could be distracted by! On your own site, YOU are in control. You can gently guide them where you would like them to go.
Now you know everything you need to know to reap ALL the benefits of using Tailwind for Pinterest marketing.
Summing up: Using Tailwind for Pinterest allows you to schedule your pins easily, thus enabling you to stay consistent and work more efficiently. Tailwind also helps you further your reach and optimise your content by providing valuable analytics.
If you are like me and you like to know your numbers and what to expect – here are some official stats that show the typical results of using Tailwind* for Pinterest:
